Flight Details:

We have officially hit the ~6 month mark where flight deals are beginning to start! A friend of ours set a price alert via google flights and recently booked a nonstop flight from San Francisco to Dublin and back for ~$500. We highly recommend doing the same and booking your flight when you can. The best days to buy flights generally are on Tuesday mornings, and the best deals will likely be offered between now and the end of May. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about the shuttles, travel, or the weekend!

FAQs

Would it be better to have a car in dingle?

Dingle is a very small town, you can walk from one side to the other in less than 20 minutes. There are cabs if you want to explore further out, but we don’t recommend staying outside of Dingle town unless you have reliable transportation. If you’re staying in Dingle then you will be completely fine without a car.

Please note that Ubers or ride shares are not available in Dingle.

Are there other accommodations you recommend?

Yes, there are a number of bed and breakfast options, small hotels, and Airbnb’s within the center of Dingle. We’ve personally stayed at and can highly recommend Murphy’s Bed and Breakfast and Greenmount House. However, there are many options to choose from. With some effort, you should be able to find a room for ~$100-200 per night.

What’s the best way to explore Ireland before or after the wedding?

The best part about Ireland is not the big cities, it’s the small little towns and the people you meet in them. Unfortunately, the best way to see these places is by renting a car and driving. If this is something you’re interested in doing, Magen and Jame have a ton of recommendations for you. In the meantime, make sure to book your car in advance. We’ve used Enterprise, Budget, and Europcar and had great experiences with all. Just make sure to book an automatic car if you don’t know how to drive manual.

If you want to limit driving we would recommend taking the shuttle to Dingle and then paying for a cab to Tralee or Killarney to rent a car there. The best exploring (in our opinion) is on the West coast of Ireland and County Cork.

What airport should I fly into?

Most people responded that they are flying into Dublin Airport, so the shuttles will be leaving from there. If you prefer to not be in a shuttle/car for that long, there is a very tiny airport called Kerry Airport that has two flights per day from Dublin. You could then take a 40 min cab to Dingle.

The other airport options are: Shannon (3 hours to Dingle) or Cork (2.5 hours to Dingle).

How do I get to dingle?

Dublin airport is ~4hr drive to Dingle, and Shannon airport is ~3hr. There are various options that you can choose, including:

  • Catch one of the shuttles that we’re providing. To make the travel easier on our guests, we’re planning to have a few shuttle options to get people to/from the airport. The exact details are tentative depending upon input we get from everyone. But the current plan is to have a shuttle pick up guests at Dublin Airport on Thursday and Friday morning (around 10-11am local time), and there may be one small shuttle at Shannon airport on Thursday (~8 am). Please see above for more details.

  • Rent a car and drive yourself. If this is something that you’re interested in doing, we highly recommend giving it a shot. It’s the best way to see Ireland, and gives you the flexibility to stop and see the different castles and scenic sites along the way. Remember that the Irish drive on the left side of the road!

  • Schedule a taxi to pick you up at the airport. If you take this option, we’d recommend scheduling it ahead of time.

  • Take public transport. There are buses that can take you to Dingle from either airport. They’re not the quickest option. But if you miss our shuttles and don’t want to rent a car, this might be your best option.

What will the weather be like?

Well… it’s Ireland! September is one of the best months in terms of weather. And Dingle on a sunny day is amazing. The temperatures in September often sit in the 50’s to 60’s Fahrenheit. That being said, rain is common so be prepared for some showers. And don’t forget that rain is part of the Irish charm - just pop into a pub and start a conversation with a local.

Do I need a passport?

Yes! Please make sure to do this early if you don’t have one. According to the US State Department, the processing time typically takes 6-8 weeks (excluding the in-person appointment, mailing time, etc.).

If you already have one, don’t forget to check the expiration date! Magen messed up a trip a few years ago by not noticing her passport was going to expire within two months of the trip.

What else do you recommend doing in Ireland?

We’ve put together this page full of our recommendations for Ireland! This is our favorite place in the world, we spent 3 of 12 months nomading here and we’re so excited to share it with people we love.
